The midnight curfew is ... absent in many versions; Cinderella leaves the ball to get home before her stepmother and stepsisters, or she is simply tired. In the Grimms' version, Aschenputtel slips away when she is tired, hiding on her father's estate in a tree, and then the pigeon coop, to elude her pursuers; her father tries to catch her by chopping them down, but she escapes.[9]

From March 6 - 16, 2008, Houston Ballet will present the American premiere of Stanton Welch’s production of Cinderella with a fresh new take on the familiar tale. The production features lavish scenery and spectacular costumes by the great New Zealand designer Kristian Fredrickson. In Welch’s staging, Cinderella is no downtrodden waif, but a gutsy tomboy who stands up for herself to fight against her stepsisters, and in the end chooses love over money in a twist to suit the 21st century.
Shtick has the last word in James Kudelka's " Cinderella," which returned to American Ballet Theatre Monday night as the final offering of the company's two-month season at the Metropolitan Opera House. Period touches — the period being the years between the two world wars — are what distinguish Mr. Kudelka's production, which was created for the National Ballet of Canada in 2004 and was first performed by ABT last year.
