Research from decades of epidemiological studies on commercialized cigarettes has generated dose-response relationships between whole tobacco smoke and various smoking-related diseases. The higher the dose of whole tobacco smoke, the greater the incidence of many smoking-related diseases. Using these quantifiable relationships, it is believed by the Company that PREPs that reduce the average daily dose of whole tobacco smoke and not just smoke compounds or constituents, can be more directly compared to this vast epidemiological record. Similar dose-response relationships for PREPs that only reduce smoke compounds, quantitatively and qualitatively, don't exist. Therefore, PREPs that reduce whole smoke delivery in its totality may be easier to assess for reducing risk.

The Company believes it has the technology and know-how to maintain consumer acceptability with these very low tar/nicotine ratio cigarettes. A reduced-risk product is of very limited value unless it attains consumer acceptance.
