The newest addition to the Cigarette menu of boats is the 42’ Tiger XP. Cigarette redesigned its bottom to meet the customer demand for more speed. While the 42’ Tiger was built to accommodate Mercury 575 engines with Bravo XR drives, the Tiger XP’s steps were rebalanced to handle the weight and power of high performance engines with #6 drives. The Tiger XP followed last year’s introduction of the popular 36’ Gladiator. While Cigarette Racing Team™ enjoyed its reputation as a great rough water boat, the company saw the value in refining its hull design to prove itself in calmer waters as well. The sleek version of the still-popular 38’ Top Gun won acclaim on the both the Poker Run and Offshore Racing circuits, as well as in the less-competitive recreational market.

Cigarette smoking is the most important preventable cause of premature death in the United States. It accounts for nearly 440,000 of the more than 2.4 million annual deaths. Cigarette smokers have a higher risk of developing several chronic disorders. These include fatty buildups in arteries, several types of cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (lung problems). Atherosclerosis (buildup of fatty substances in the arteries) is a chief contributor to the high number of deaths from smoking. Many studies detail the evidence that cigarette smoking is a major cause of coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack.

Cigarette prices have increased significantly since the late 1990s, according to data from IRI/Capstone and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. From an average of $2.69 per pack in 1999, cigarette prices increased to $2.98 in 2000, $3.23 in 2001, and $3.47 in 2002. In the wake of a sluggish economy, many states increased taxes on cigarettes in an effort to improve their budgets. In its August 2002 issue, National Petroleum News reported that in the first half of 2002 alone, nine states "enacted a cigarette/tobacco tax increase as part of their budgetary process, while as many as another 21 states have some type of tax increase still simmering." In July of 2002, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg raised his city's tax from 8 cents per pack to $1.50 per pack. This increase made New York City's cigarette tax the nation's highest and pushed prices as high as $7.00 per pack.

Aronow and his 32’ Cigarette, reportedly named for a boat owned by a notorious Prohibition-era rum-running hijacker, earned eight international victories and speed records in three countries. The Bahamas 500, a grueling, rough-water duel became one of the most famous offshore contests of all times, and Cigarettes won in 1969, and from 1971-76. Cigarettes ... earned World Championship records from 1969 through 1974 and again in 1976. After retiring from racing in 1970, Aronow’s reputation as a racer was exceeded only by his reputation as a powerboat builder. He then formed Cigarette Racing Team™ to manufacture his winning designs and to raise the bar in performance boating.

Cigarette smoking has long been identified as a major cause of preventable death and has been factored into underwriting decisions and individual risk ratings. The 2004 Surgeon General’s Report (U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services, 2004) reiterates that over 400,000 Americans die each year as a result of cigarette smoking and that, on average, a smoker loses about 12-13 years of life expectancy.

In response to these concerns, several cigarette manufacturers introduced a number of alternative cigarettes, including menthol, filter-tipped, and low-tar cigarettes. Menthol cigarettes smell and taste "cooler" because they are flavored with a substance found in mint oil, although they pose the same health risks. Filters help block some materials from entering the body, but their effectiveness varies from brand to brand, and even low-tar cigarettes expose the body to potentially harmful levels of tar. Recently, manufacturers have sought to reduce the amount of nicotine in cigarettes as well.
