Chrysler Pt Cruiser: Limited Cruisers

The PT Cruiser is still in its first generation but Chrysler has made regular refreshes and special-edition models to keep its retro vehicle up to date. A PT Cruiser Dream Cruiser trim came out in 2002; it featured exclusive gold paint and accents. The turbocharged GT debuted the year after as a reply to critics who'd complained the base engine was not powerful enough. It was originally rated at 215 hp and received subsequent updates to reach its current 230-hp output. The 180-hp version of the turbo engine appeared as an option in the Touring and Limited trim levels for 2004. Other notables for potential used PT Cruiser buyers to consider include two subsequent Dream Cruiser models in 2003 and 2004, the debut of the convertible body style in 2005 and interior and exterior upgrades in 2006.

Chrysler PT Cruiser aficionados may choose between a four-door wagon and a two-door convertible. Wagons come in base, Touring, Limited and GT trim levels. The convertible is offered in base, Touring and GT trim. Base PT Cruiser wagons offer a CD stereo with an MP3 audio input jack, power windows and locks, and remote keyless entry; base convertibles ... feature air-conditioning, power mirrors and a power-folding top. Touring models add air-conditioning and fold-flat passenger seating on the wagon version, and power outlets in both body styles. The Limited wagon ups the ante with upgraded seats (with six-way power adjustment for the driver), 16-inch aluminum wheels, a moonroof and touring suspension.

The Chrysler PT Cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon, which Chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. The sedan is available in four trim levels: base, Touring, Limited, and GT. The convertible comes in Touring and GT trim only. While the body style remains remarkably consistent from year to year, there are actually multiple models of the PT Cruiser, designated by unique badges in the lower left hand corner of the rear lift-gate. Models include the Classic Edition, Limited Edition, Touring Edition, "Dream Cruiser", "Street Cruiser", "Pacific Coast Highway Edition" and PT Cruiser GT. Turbo edition models are identified by a "2.4L Turbo" badge on the lower right hand corner of the rear lift-gate. The GT model has a badge on the right hand corner of the lift-gate says "2.4L Turbo High Output" (indicating it is the 220/230hp engine version).

The 2008 PT Cruiser is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in 3 trims, ranging from the Base to the Limited. Upon introduction, the Base is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 150-horsepower engine that achieves 21-mpg in the city and 26-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. The Limited is equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, I4, 180-horsepower, turbo engine that achieves 18-mpg in the city and 24-mpg on the highway. Inside the refreshed PT Cruiser Cabrio Limited, a Satin Silver centre stack holds an analog Chrysler wing badge clock, available radio and CD changer, and audio and climate controls. On either side are a handsome leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a convenient, lockable glove box. A colour-keyed gearshift knob directs a five-speed manual or efficient automatic transmission. Never has careful design looked more fresh and carefree.
