Christy Martin

Ironically, Christy Martin is the reason why Laila Ali is a boxer today; one would ... have to sense that her genetic make up played a part in that decision as well. Christy Martin took the Boxing World by storm and captivated its attention for a very long time, until there was all of a sudden a flood of famous daughters choosing to make a living as their famous fathers once did. George Foreman's daughter, Archie Moore's daughter, Roberto Duran's daughter, Ingamar Johansen's daughter, Joe Frazier's daughter and last but not least Muhammad Ali's daughter. It didn't take long to find out which daughters would survive and prove themselves worthy of stepping into their fathers shoes.

[S]o, Christy Martin has now experienced victory and defeat, joy and sorrow, comedy and tragedy. The question "what's next" is logical. Martin has talked about fifty wins before she ends her career. The Ali fight was, realistically, for Martin, the last of her "big money" bouts. To get to fifty wins, by current count, Martin will need six more victories. Several paths to that goal are available.

Christy Martin fought and beat Amy Yuratovac by a 6-round unanimous decision on June 2, 2007 at the L'Auberge du Lac Casino in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Martin, one of the most recognized female boxers was coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss to welterweight Angelica Martinez on October 6, 2006. It was Christy's first time back in the ring after not fighting since her loss to Holly Holmes in 2005. Martin outlanded Martinez by 2:1 but the heavier blows delivered were by Martinez who was much bigger and stronger then Christy. With her recent win against Yuratovac, Martin has an 8-round NABF female middleweight title fight promoted by Infinity Boxing Promotions scheduled for April in Richmond, Virginia against Bonnie Mann. Hector "Macho" Camacho Jr will ... be on the card.
