The Territory of Cocos (Keeling) Islands are southwest of Christmas Island in the Indian Ocean, some 1,700 miles (2,700 kilometers) northwest of Perth. They comprise 27 small coral islands forming two atolls. Their total land area is 5 square miles (14 square kilometers).
