Christina Aguilera released Mi Reflejo, a successful Spanish-language Latin pop album in 2000. In 2001 she collaborated with Mya, Pink, and Lil' Kim on a smash #1 pop remake of "Lady Marmalade" for the film Moulin Rouge. A second English-language album was finally released in the fall of 2002. Titled Stripped it was intended to present a more adult version of Christina Aguilera. Unfortunately, it only reached #2 on the charts and sales were half that of her first album.

In the spring of 2006 Christina Aguilera announced that a new album Back to Basics was on its way with an intended August, 2006 release. "Ain't No Other Man," the first single from the album, was be debuted at the MTV Movie Awards on June 8, 2006. It returned her to the pop top 10 over the summer and set the scene for an August release of Back to Basics.
