Chris Rock's book debut, 1997's Rock This (Hyperion), graced both the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists. The volume focused on observation and reflection. "White people don't, know how to tell the difference between one black man and another," Rock explains in its pages. "They see two black men together and it's a crowd. A dangerous mob. To white people, even Ed Bradley and Bryant Gumbel waiting to cross the street is potentially scary."

Chris Rock worked as a stand-up comic in local New York comedy clubs from the time he was a teenager. It was in these clubs that he learned how to make people laugh, a skill that Rock developed into a highly successful career. With a hit comedy show on UPN, multiple enormously popular appearances as host of the MTV Video Music Awards and one at the Oscars, two grammy-winning comedy album, and numerous film appearances, Rock was definitely on a roll.

Looks like Chris Rock approves of Rihanna's gorgeous gown as the two arrive at the Gucci charity event at the United Nations in New York Wednesday night. The singer wasn't the only one getting checked out. The soirée – hosted by Madonna and bringing in $3.7 million for UNICEF and Raising Malawi – was a star-studded one including A-listers Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise, Gwyneth Paltrow and Salma Hayek.

In 2005, Rock debuted a sitcom on The CW Television Network called Everybody Hates Chris, a spoof on the perennially popular Everybody Loves Raymond. The show was inspired by Rock's teenage years growing up in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of New York City. The show quickly became the second most watched comedy on the network.
