   After laboring in obscurity for several years, French filmmaker Claude Sautet finally struck a responsive chord with moviegoers in Les Choses de la Vie. The plot isn't much: the hero, businessman Michel Piccoli, must choose between his wife and his mistress, two women whom he loves with equal fervor.

3. Billy Tipton -- Women
   Billy Tipton made a choice that was at the same time very similar and very different from Mrs. Siegel. Tipton's choice was similar in that she too chose to pursue a career path that was not traditionally open to one of her gender. It was entirely different in that Tipton chose to accept an entirely different kind of risk. Mrs. Siegel chose to take on the system, bearing the risk that she would fail. Tipton chose to try to fool the system, bearing the risk that she would be found out. These different strategic choices might reflect differences between the two women in assessments of risk, and/or differences in discount rates, and/or differences in their basic preference orderings.
4. Joey -- True Love
   In the meantime, after ending her relationship with Christopher, Joey finally chooses, once and for all, between Dawson and Pacey. She says that while Dawson is her soulmate, the love she has for him is eternally pure and innocent, whereas she can see herself having a romantic, sexual relationship with Pacey.
5. Erasmus -- Companies
   In 1491, Erasmus was freed from the monastery when the Bishop of Cambrai chose Erasmus to accompany him to Italy as his secretary and traveling companion. Cambrai chose Erasmus for his great linguistic ability and because he was bright and had a wonderful memory. Although the trip was never made, the Bishop retained Erasmus in his services, and in 1495 sent Erasmus to Paris to complete his studies.6
6. Boss Day -- Patricia Bays Haroski
   Here's an interesting little tidbit about the State Farm employee who invented "National Boss's Day" in 1958: Her boss was HER DAD. According to rumor, Patricia Bays Haroski not only got "Employee of the Month" 26 times in two years, but ... the best mini-calendars and refrigerator magnets in the office. That shocking revelation alone should invalidate the observance, but Hallmark swept it all under the rug and made the day official by printing zillions of greeting cards. Like a good neighbor, indeed.
7. The Great Depression -- Students
   Through participation in two simulations, students determine that bank panics and a shrinking money supply were the primary causes of the Great Depression. Through an additional activity, they see how the many other factors they have discussed, such as problems in the agricultural sector and the stock market crash, exacerbated the situation.
8. Billy Zane -- Titanic
   A highlight of the evening occurred when Madonna presented the Favorite Movie Award for "Titanic," Actor Billy Zane accepted on behalf of the Oscar-winning film. She ... introduced the performance of Cleopatra, a new group signed to her Maverick label. The three young British singers made their US debut, performing their hit single "Cleopatra's Theme."
9. Buy Used Car -- Miscellaneous
