Chlorophyll: Pigments
built 621 days ago
Chlorophyll is one of the most important pigments in nature. Through the process of photosynthesis, it is capable of channeling the radiant energy of sunlight into the chemical energy of organic carbon compounds in the cell. For a detailed account of this process, see photosynthesis.

Chlorophyll and some of the accessory pigments are contained in the [T]hylakoid membranes of the chloroplast. The assemblies of light-harvesting pigments in the thylakoid membrane, together with their associated proteins, are organized into well-defined photosystems, structural units dedicated to the task of absorbing light photons and recovering some of their energy in a chemical form. The first part of this process takes place in what are referred to as light-harvesting complexes. Each is a multisubunit protein complex containing multiple antenna pigment molecules (chlorophylls and some accessory pigments) and a pair of chlorophyll molecules that act as the reaction center, trapping energy quanta excited by the absorption of light.

One of the most significant discoveries that man has ever made out of nature is the discovery of a substance called Chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is that green pigments, found in all green plants and vegetables. It is often referred to as the blood of plants.
