Chloe had a crush on Clark throughout high school, but Clark's feelings for Lana Lang have prevented them from ever having a romantic relationship. Despite this, Chloe has cultivated a strong friendship with Lana. Initially a rival for Clark's affection, Lana sees Chloe as her closest friend. Although Chloe disapproved of Lana's intense relationship with Lex Luthor, she tried to be supportive and was the Maid of Honor at their wedding.

A few months after Lionel's conviction, Chloe learns of Clark's powers from a "demonstration" staged by Alicia Baker in Season Four's "Pariah." Alicia forces Chloe into her car by teleporting into it and, while driving at a reckless speed, Alicia calls Clark on her cell phone and claims that her car is out of control. Alicia then uses her power to teleport her and Chloe to a safe distance. As Alicia had planned, a shocked Chloe witnesses Clark arrive at super-speed and catch the speeding car. Clark then leaves, unaware that he has been observed.

Chloe and Jimmy investigated the shooting of Lana Luthor at the Daily Planet, and while recovering, Lana admitted to Chloe that she married Lex to protect Clark. Clark got angry when Chloe refused to tell him what Lana had disclosed. Jimmy was sent on an assignment in Milwaukee by the Planet, which meant leaving Chloe. However, they didn't break up, but parted on optimistic terms. Clark later admitted to Chloe that he told Lana his secret and she seemed happy for him.

In the beginning of Season four, Chloe is presumed dead until her cousin, Lois Lane, comes to find out the truth about her death. Lois and Clark investigate her death and find out that she is alive. Later, Clark saves Chloe, who finally testifies against Lionel. Chloe's testimony leads to Lionel's conviction of murder and imprisonment in "Gone."
