When Clark ran away, Chloe was ... in Metropolis at her summer job at the Daily Planet and ran into him in a club. Under the influence of red kryptonite, he threatened her if she told; she kept his secret all summer until events unfolded in Smallville that made her try and persuade him to return. However, he was violent and angry and Chloe let Lana and his parents deal with his return. Even after Clark returned home, he rejoined the Torch staff, but their relationship continued to be strained and awkward as Lionel Luthor put pressure on Chloe for more information. When Clark developed super-hearing, he heard a phone conversation between Chloe and Lionel and realized that Chloe was still investigating him. She apologized profusely, but Clark felt betrayed.

When Chloe couldn't find Morris, she stormed into the men's room and opened one of the stall doors. Chloe accused Morris of lying to her, and he told her that he had a different sponsor. Chloe realized she was wrong and Morris insisted she may be a little too much obsessed over the situation. After it was learned that an assassination attempt was made on President Wayne Palmer, Chloe learned from Jack that Charles Logan wasn't able to extract information from Russian Consul Anatoly Markov. Jack told her that he would be going into the consulate himself, similar to the situation with the Chinese consulate during the events of Day 4.

Over the years, Chloe has developed the research and computer skills to get just about any piece of information she needs. She can search fingerprints databases, run license plates, download satellite images, hack cellular phone records (although she admitted doing this illegally) and access old newspaper archives. She carries a wide assortment of spy gear in the trunk of her car, and is well-versed in their operation. She is highly skilled in using the Internet, and other online databases of information.

During the summer between her freshman and sophomore years, Chloe interned at the Daily Planet. The following summer, she was given her own column in the Daily Planet after making a deal with Lionel Luthor to dig up information on Clark.

After Chloe told Morris that Jack needed the schematic, Morris planned to bring this information to Buchanan. Chloe decided to bring it to him herself and Jack was arrested, though he later escaped.

Chloe searches the phone of the Anacostia inmate suspected of being aligned with Fayed and finds that it has no connection to the terrorists. The inmate was obtaining his information from a website and not contacting Fayed directly.
