arg/chitosan_150.jpg Chitosan is a new dietary fiber derived from chitin, a polysaccharide, derived from the shells of crustaceans. Chitosan does not contain any appreciable amounts of toxic minerals such as mercury, which have previously been associated with the meaty portions of certain shellfish. Like other fibers, Chitosan is indigestible, and can reduce "transit time", which is the time it takes for foods to pass through the digestive system and out of the body. Therefore less fats in general, including cholesterol, sterols, fatty acids, and essential fatty acids are available to be absorbed.
Chitosan is a very simple substance, which has been around for ages. It is derived from chitin, a polysaccharide found in the exoskeletons of crustaceans and processed by removing the shells from shellfish such as shrimp, lobster, and crabs. Chitosan is ... used in water purification by spreading the powder over the surface where it immediately absorbs any toxic substances such as greases, oils, or dangerous heavy metals. The scum that forms on the water surface is than easily removed. Chitosan is an antibacterial and very effective at preventing the growth of bacteria and eumycetes. Chitosan is also used as a food preservative to prolong the freshness of the product and make it taste better.
Chitosan Chitosan has no adverse side effects. Because it is a shellfish product, those who have severe allergic reactions to shellfish should not use this product. If you are pregnant or nursing, you should not take this product. Pregnant and lactating mothers require a certain amount of fat to ensure the health of the fetus or newborn.

Chitosan has no caloric value, which is a very important property for any weight-loss product. Chitosan affects fat in the stomach before it has a chance to become metabolized. It dissolves in the stomach and is converted into a gel which "traps" fat, thereby preventing its absorption and subsequent storage.
Chemical formula of chitosan in Haworth´s projection Chitosan's properties allow it to rapidly clot blood, and has recently gained approval in the USA for use in bandages and other hemostatic agents. Chitosan purified from shrimp shells is used in a granular hemostatic product, Celox, made by Medtrade Biopolymers Inc. of Crewe, England[6] and in the chitosan dressings made by HemCon Medical Technologies Inc. of Portland, OR, USA [7]. Celox has been shown in testing by the US Marines to quickly stop bleeding and result in 100% survival of otherwise lethal arterial wounds and to reduce blood loss[8]. The Hemcon product reduces blood loss in comparison to gauze dressings and increases patient survival[9]. Hemcon products have been sold to the United States Army, who have already used the bandages on the battlefields of Iraq [10]. Chitosan is hypoallergenic, and has natural anti-bacterial properties, further supporting its use in field bandages.[11]
Chitosan (180 capsules) As part of a sensible diet and exercise program, Chitosan can help achieve weight management goals. Great by itself or use in conjunction with other products. And remember...Chitosan: is a NATURAL FIBER from the sea that is attracted to fat...just like a magnet (especially saturated fat). This sea fiber has been studied in over 300 scientific and medical journals for its amazing uses and applications. Many articles have been written on the exciting new fiber Chitin. It has been widely studied and found to be an effective fat-absorbing agent within the body's digestive system.
