Chimaira [One] feature that is bound to be noticed by most that have followed Chimaira is the change in dynamic on the bottom end of the songs. The thick basslines of Jim LaMarca combined with the newfound dirge of former Dying Fetus drummer Kevin Talley adds a fresh, new feel to the music as a whole. Considering Talley's background with bands like Fetus, there's certainly no surprises that the drumwork is phenomenal. However, it is surprising how much more depth is brought to the sound from the combination of Talley and LaMarca. Songs like "Salvation" plod along while unleashing furious blasts of bottom end throughout.

Chimaira is proof that there is life after death. The months following the release of the band's self-titled third album, despite the record's blistering and undeniably killer content, were a dark time. Band members threatened to leave. There were face-to-face arguments. Problems stacked up with their record label. In Cleveland, it seemed like the sky was falling.
Formed in 1998, the Cleveland, OH-based hardcore sextet Chimaira consists of singer/screamer Mark Hunter, guitarists Matt DeVries (who replaced Jason Hager in mid-2001) and Rob Arnold, bassist Jim LaMarca, drummer Andols Herrick, and electronic specialist Chris Spicuzza. The band's mixture of hardcore, metal, and electronics proved to be a big hit back home, as they sold 10,000 copies of their independently issued debut EP, This Present Darkness, leading to an appearance on the now-defunct USA Network TV show Farmclub. The band opened for the likes of Soulfly, Hatebreed, Spineshank, and Snapcase and was eventually signed to Roadrunner Records, issuing their 14-track debut full-length, Pass Out of Existence, in August 2001. The Impossibility of Reason followed on Roadrunner in May 2003, and Chimaira supported the effort with extensive touring, including dates with In Flames and appearances at Ozzfest 2003. After the release of the DVD collection The Dehumanization Process and addition of new drummer Kevin Talley (ex-Misery Index) in 2004, the band unleashed their third album, Chimaira, in 2005. Though a strong record, internal problems and ones with their label threatened to tear the band apart in the months following its release.

Chimaira Chimaira originated in Cleveland, Ohio with vocalist Mark Hunter, lead guitarist Rob Arnold, rhythm guitarist Jason Hager, bassist Jim LaMarca, drummer Andols Herrick, and Chris Spicuzza on keyboards/electronics/ samples. After releasing a demo, which had constant college radio airplay, the band was signed by Roadrunner Records. Shortly after their album release, Jason Hager left the band and Matt DeVries took over as rhythm guitarist. During their time at Roadrunner, Andols Herrick decided to leave the band, replaced by Ricky Evensand, then replaced by Kevin Talley. After signing with Ferret Records/Nuclear Blast, Andols Herrick came back to record their forth LP, entitled Resurrection-their heaviest and most musically technical album to date.
