A Senate committee rejected a bill to track the location of child molesters for the rest of their lives using satellite technology, a day after similar legislation was signed into law in Florida. Senators said Tuesday they may reconsider the bill in January, but said it needs major revisions after Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Merced, used a parliamentary maneuver to introduce the legislation less than a week ago. Denham\'s bill would have required lifetime monitoring of anyone convicted of molesting a child under 12.

HB 1155 was modeled after a Florida law, known as Jessica’s Law, that requires all child molesters to be placed on lifetime probation and monitored by GPS tracking devices. The law was created after a nine-year old girl was murdered by a registered sex offender.

"There are too many stories of child molesters who are set free only to shatter the life of another innocent child," he said. "I want to make certain that in Oklahoma we are doing everything we can to ensure that never happens here in our state."
