The 1953 Chevrolet was advertised as "Entirely New Through and Through," due to the restyled body panels, front and rear ends. However, essentially these Chevys had the same frame and mechanicals as the 1949-52 cars. The Bel Air series featured a wide chrome strip of molding from the rear fender bulge, to the rear bumper. The inside of this stripe was painted a coordinating color with the outside body color, and "Bel Air" scripts were added inside the strip. Lesser models had no model designation anywhere on the car, only having a Chevy crest on the hood and trunk. Bel Air interiors for 1953 had a massive expanse of chrome across the lower part of the dashboard, along with a de luxe Bel Air steering wheel with full chrome horn ring.

Receiving an extreme makeover for 2008, the Chevrolet Malibu now looks more like a luxury sedan than a fleet car. And along with the upscale styling is a much-improved cabin in terms of materials and build quality. Two-tone interior schemes, even on base models, further the effect. The Malibu is based on the long-wheelbase version of GM's front-drive Epsilon platform and offers competitive power with a choice of a 169-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine or a 3.6-liter 252-hp V6. The inline-4 comes paired to a four-speed automatic, while the V6 boasts a six-speed automatic. The six-speed is expected to be offered with the smaller engine at a later date.

[T]hese were replaced by Opel models like the Rekord, Commodore, and Senator, and in 1982 the Chevrolet brand name was dropped in favour of Opel. Because of the political climate at the time, GM decided to disinvest from South Africa in 1986, and a local group eventually bought out GM's South African operations (including the Port Elizabeth plant) and renamed the company as the Delta Motor Corporation, which concentrated on Opels, Isuzus, and Suzukis, built under licence.

The pickup truck has long been a mainstay of American byways and highways, and Chevrolet has been there from day one. Originally used and respected by farmers, construction workers and small-business owners, Chevrolet's hauler was a basic workhorse known for its reliability and longevity. More recent times have seen Chevy's full-size truck adopt the name Silverado, which was previously an upscale trim level.
