The Chevrolet Equinox is a mid-size crossover SUV from Chevrolet, introduced in 2004 for the 2005 model year. It replaces the Chevrolet Tracker in the United States and Canada, while in Mexico it replaces the Chevrolet Blazer as the Tracker is still sold there. The Equinox slots between the HHR and TrailBlazer, and is the first crossover SUV from the marque. Although its dimensions are mid-sized, GM calls the Equinox a compact SUV.

The Chevrolet Equinox returns for 2008 with the addition of two new trims, the LTZ and Sport. So now the Equinox is available in a LS, LT, LTZ and Sport; in 2WD or AWD configurations. Standard amenities include all power conveniences, keyless remote entry, drivers information center, and OnStar communication system with hands-free telephone. The LTZ and Sport models add to the standard list; heated seats and remote control engine start. An optional package offering front fog lights, remote control engine start, XM radio feature, power drivers seat adjuster, and pearl chrome aluminum wheels is available on the LT model. Three new exterior paint colors have been added: Golden Teal Metallic, Navy Blue Metallic, and Black Granite Metallic.

The 2008 Chevrolet Equinox gains a pair of new models, one bent toward luxury, the other toward performance. This midsize crossover seats five and shares its basic design with the Pontiac Torrent and Suzuki XL7. Equinox LS and LT models are joined this year by the luxury-themed LTZ and high-performance Sport. All are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The LS, LT, and LTZ have a 185-hp 3.4-liter V6 engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. Sports have a 264-hp 3.6-liter V6, 6-speed automatic transmission, firmer suspension tuning, and specific trim.
The 2008 Chevrolet Equinox is equipped with a traction control system; and side curtain airbags. The vehicle controls have been designed in a simple easy to use manner, though its music system small buttons are a bit complicated. There is plenty of both head and leg room inside the vehicle for passengers. It has a split back seat that can be slide up and down 8 inches to help one store extra luggage.
