Chevrolet Equinox: Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell
built 614 days ago
Chevrolet Equinox LS The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle uses hydrogen for fuel and its only emission is water. The Equinox Fuel Cell will use the same fourth-generation hydrogen technology found in the Chevrolet Sequel concept, which was unveiled earlier in September. The Equinox Fuel Cell is designed for only 50,000 miles of driving, but is engineered to be operable in subfreezing temperatures throughout its life. GM states that the Equinox Fuel Cell is about 500 pounds heavier than the original Equinox and has one inch less ground clearance. To reduce weight, the Equinox Fuel Cell has aluminum doors and a carbon fiber hood.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell has received Green Car Journal's first-ever Green Car Vision Award(TM), which honors the vehicle that best envisions the road ahead. The award was presented at a press conference at the Washington Auto Show.

The GM HydroGen4 is the European version of the Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell. In fall 2007, the first of these fuel cell cars – a global fleet of more than 100 vehicles is planned – will be on the roads in the USA. The HydroGen4’s fuel cell stack consists of 440 series-connected cells. The entire system produces an electrical output of up to 93 kW. With help from a 73 kW/100 hp synchronous electric motor, acceleration from zero to 100 km/h takes around 12 seconds. The front-wheel drive vehicle’s top speed is around 160 km/h.

Equinox230 Chevrolet has ... engineered in little things that will help any driver of a conventional gas-powered car feel comfortable in the Equinox fuel cell. Lift your foot off the brake pedal and it will creep forward like a regular car with an automatic transmission. In fact, the Equinox fuel cell doesn't really ask the driver to change anything about the way they drive in order to operate it. That's sure to be a plus for the people who have been selected to test it as part of Project Driveway.
