Chevrolet Colorado is Chevrolet's new moniker for its midsize pickup, replacing the S10. It's more... than just substituting an outdoorsy name for a nondescript alphanumeric designation. It is slightly larger than the S10 it replaces. It gains in passenger space and loses a minor amount of cargo space. It comes with a completely new five-cylinder engine option instead of a V6 and its towing rating decreases. The new Colorado is designed to offer favor comfort over towing and hauling capability that is seldom tested by most mid-size truck owners.

The Chevrolet Colorado and its counterpart, the GMC Canyon, are General Motors' mid-size pickup trucks introduced in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S10 and GMC Sonoma. Isuzu, which participated in the design the truck, began selling a version of the truck in late 2005 named the "i-Series". The Chevrolet Colorado was jointly designed by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, based on the GMT355, itself the basis for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. The vehicles are manufactured and produced at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand and in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado has a good-looking exterior and reassuring crash test scores, but its less-than-competitive performance, interior comfort and overall refinement leave it near the bottom of its class. For similar performance, but more luxury, consider the GMC Canyon.

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado, like the other medium-sized truck lines of Chevrolet, is available in three configurations which are the regular cab, extended cab, and crew cab. All of these cab options can have either a 2WD or 4WD. The six-passenger regular and extended cab trucks have a 6-foot 1-inch pick-up bed, which is geared with taller sides. This enhanced feature of the Chevrolet Colorado will enable users to load up the truck big time because of the deeper storage and higher overall payload. The Colorado Crew Cab... has only a 5-foot 1-inch bed length and offers a standard lock. It is good though that no matter what bed length, both have been equipped with two-tier cargo loading and tailgates that are both lockable and easily removable.

The 2008 Chevrolet Colorado offers more than strength and dependability. It ... offers choice, with Regular, Extended and Crew Cab configurations available with Z85 Standard or Z71 Off-Road suspensions. Regular and Extended Cab models are available in LS and LT trim levels; Crew Cabs are offered exclusively in LT trim.

The Chevrolet Colorado 2WD was first introduced for the 2004 model year as a compact pickup truck, replacing the Chevy S10. The configurations available for the Colorado included a crew, extended or regular cab. The crew cab is only an available option for the Chevrolet Colorado 2WD- those who need 4WD utility can still choose from either extended or regular cabs. Available engines for the all new Colorado included two brand new in-line engines, the Vortec 2800 four cylinder and the Vortec 3500 five cylinder. Both engines were powerful enough to easily command the Colorado configured with optional 4 wheel drive and provide impressive and essential performance in the Colorado 2WD model. These engines were an excellent fit for the Chevrolet Colorado, providing all the towing capabilities and performance that would be essential to the purchaser of this small frame yet hard working pick up truck.
