Dance pusic pioneers The Chemical Brothers were formed by Tom Rowlands (born 11 January 1971, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, England) and Edward Simons (born Dulwich, London, England) in the late 80s. The Chemical Brothers' albums contain tracks that blend guitar riffs, massive beats, cool samples and huge breakdowns into an innovative sound. With their well known electrofying live shows and a number of critically acclaimed albums to their credit they are well established as Superstar DJs! After several albums, the Chemical Brothers returned to the UK pop charts in June 1999 with the Top 5 single, ""Hey Boy Hey Girl"", and the chart-topping Surrender. Rowlands and Simons sustained their remarkable creativity with their first album of the new millennium, Come With Us.
English electronic duo The Chemical Brothers are widely credited as the godfathers of the big beat sound. Both members-Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons-shared an enduring passion for sample-heavy American hip hop records and electronic-leaning English bands like New Order and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Both boys graduated with respectable degrees, the went on to keep dance floors and festival fields tweaked out and writhing with a groundbreaking procession of big beat singles and albums. Originally DJing under The Beastie Boys inspired name The Dust Brothers, the duo spent 1994 spinning records at the highly influential party Heavenly Seventeen Social Club at London's Albany Pub. The trendy dance night got them tons of remix work for bands like Republica and The Sandals as well as giving them a chance to develop their distinct, hip hop influenced beats and make connections with savvy celebrities like Oasis' Noel Gallagher. After touring the US on a groundbreaking electronic tour with Oribital and Underworld, they were forced by the US production duo The Dust Brothers to change their name to The Chemical Brothers, inspired by one of their first original singles "Chemical Beats." Their debut album Exit Planet Dust was an inspired collection of massive beats and crunchy synthesizers.
The Chemical Brothers admittedly had a tough task ahead of them in assembling this compilation. They've done a lot of stellar work, and the only way to fit it all on one CD would require radio edits of all songs, which would defeat the purpose. Singles 93-03 is a good representation of what the Chemical Brothers are capable of. But it's not the best representation. A golden opportunity, missed.

Chemical Brothers playing to Leicester Square, London In late 2003 and 2004, The Chemical Brothers continued to work in the studio, on new material and a remix of "Slow" by Kylie Minogue. After being released on rare white label vinyl, it was subsequently given a commercial release in March on CD (on her next single "Red Blooded Woman") and on exclusive 12" vinyl picture disc (containing two other Kylie remixes). In Summer 2004 they returned to the festival circuit, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival, Tokyo, Scotland and Ireland. They ... visited South America for the first time, arriving at Chile, Argentina and Brazil. It was during these sets that they played new material, including "Acid Children", which proved to be one of the most popular new tracks.
The Chemical Brothers - Singles 93-03 This album is a delicious reminder of how The Chemical Brothers have shaken the dance world with bomb-blasting beats, exhilarating riffs and samples. Song To The Siren was one of the first tracks recorded in The Dust Brothers' (as they were then) makeshift bedroom studio... giving it the position of first track on this album. The song is relatively simple and easily recognisable as their earlier work, but it also hints at the Chemical Brothers strengths that are so prominent in their later work.

In September 2006, the Chemical Brothers were revealed as the first musicians to be involved in Tate Tracks. Tate Modern invited various groups and songwriters to choose a work that inspired them from the gallery's collection of modern art and then write a track about it. The Chemical Brothers' submission, Rock Drill, was inspired by the Jacob Epstein sculpture Torso in Metal from The Rock Drill, and can be heard on headphones in front of the work in the gallery. From October 2006, it ... became available to hear online at the Tate Tracks website.
