The Cheetah Girls are Adrienne Bailon and Kiely Williams (formerly of the singing group 3LW), Sabrina Bryan and Raven-Symone (That’s So Raven, The Cosby Show). The four were assembled to star in the Disney film adaptation of The Cheetah Girls books by Deborah Gregory. The film plot involves the girls forming a band and heading to New York to find fame and fortune in the music business. The mix of teen melodrama and contemporary pop songs proved highly popular with young audiences, and the film was voted the #1 movie of them all by Disney Channel viewers two years after its release. The success of the movie and the popularity of songs such as “Cheetah Sisters” and “Girl Power” prompted the release of the album Cheetah-licious Christmas in late 2005. As The Cheetah Girls toured this record it became apparent that fans were eager for their particular brand of sassy pop attitude, and The Cheetah Girls band has been a successful enterprise ever since.

The Cheetah Girls is a television show picked up by in 2003. After four episodes were filmed the show was delayed, because the contract for That's So Raven was renewed. Therefore, Raven would not have been able to film The Cheetah Girls. It was mentioned in an article that if The Cheetah Girls 3 (possible theatrical release/see above) does well, filming on the series will continue. However, Raven has made negative comments on doing another sitcom. If the show does go on though many rumors have circulated that Galleria will move away to Spain to further her mother's career in fashion design and Belinda Peregrin's character Marisol or a new Cheetah played by 3LW's Jessica Benson will replace her in the show and new movie.

Two years after the original Cheetah Girls movie, Galleria, Chanel, Aquanette and Dorinda return with The Cheetah Girls 2, a sequel and a fulllength soundtrack. The film's subtitle is "When in Spain," and exotic flourishes such as Spanish guitar and sweeping pianos color many of the album's tracks. While the entirely en Espanol feels a little forced, hints of this sound give songs like "Strut" and "Amigas Cheetahs" the feeling of being the greatgreatgranddaughters of Madonna's "La Isla Bonita" or the Spice Girls' "Spice Up Your Life." As expected, RayvenSimone dominates The Cheetah Girls, both in character as Cheetah Girl Galleria, and as herself. Despite the odd "Everyone's a Star" which shouts out to everyone from mailmen to lawyers to hairdressers and bouncers ("Bounce on with your bad selves"), her solo tracks and the Cheetah Girls' material sound a little more sophisticated this time around: The Girls' "The Party's Just Begun" and Symone's "Do Your Own Thing" have sleeker productions and harderhitting beats, while "It's Over" shows off the Girls' more mature pipes. Of course, this is all relative several tracks still suffer from the facelessness that plagues too many Disney teenpop productions.

It’s time for Cheetah Girls, the popular book series first found its way into print, then it was on to the movies and a countrywide tour that’s drawing thousand with every performance. Parents don’t have to worry about this singing act. The Cheetah girls are fun, wholesome and a great experience for everyone in the family. The show first came to life in a book by author Deborah Gregory about a group of five girls just dying to get into the music business and banking on being discovered by a record producer. These are girls who will deal with any obstacle to fulfill their dream. Finally the they are discovered and their singing career begins.

Oddly, before The Cheetah Girls were formed, all three girls were guest stars on the Disney Channel original series The Jersey. Adrienne and Kiely guest starred with their other group 3LW and Sabrina was a co-star for an episode.
