By the end of the year, Cheesecake Factory had moved from Woodland Hills to its new corporate headquarters in Calabasas Hills, California, hiring additional staff, and beginning production at the new bakery facility. These costs ... contributed to the fourth quarter results. For the year, the company had revenues over $100 million for the first time, reaching $117 million. Although flat in the fourth quarter, net income for the entire year increased to $8.6 million. Restaurant and bakery sales each increased by 37 percent. The workers in the bakery actually produced sales of nearly $1.5 million per month before moving into the new facility.
The story of the Cheesecake Factory – as laid out in its 18-page thickly laminated menu, which boasts 36 kinds of cheesecake – is a tale of humble beginnings. Searching for a way to earn some money for her young Detroit family in the 1940s, Evelyn Overton hit on a recipe for fabulous New York-style cheesecake. She was a success, and the family business grew, eventually expanding into a national restaurant chain. Now the company, based in Calabasas Hills, near Los Angeles, manages 76 restaurants in 24 states.

The Dulles Town Center location will mark the sixth D.C.-area location for The Cheesecake Factory, a highly sought-after retail tenant whose 2005 sales exceeded $1.1 billion. Lerner inked the deal after years of hearing customer requests from Dulles Town Center patrons. Loudoun County Supervisor Bruce E. Tulloch (R-Potomac District), who sits on the Loudoun Board of Supervisors’ economic development committee, was instrumental in getting the project approved.
