built 627 days ago
Cheating refers to more than using illegal substances. Perhaps the most famous example of cheating in professional sport took place in the 1986 FIFA World Cup when Diego Maradona used his hand to punch the ball into the back of the net past the England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.[8] Using the hand or arm by anyone other than a goalkeeper is illegal according to the rules of soccer.
DocuPen The new findings about the psychology of cheating comes at a time when other researchers are finding evidence that cheating is a widespread part of sports, and not merely in the sort of cases that make the news. Using economics as a forensic tool, they’re arguing that foul play, either by referees or players, is common in sports as varied as figure skating, basketball and sumo wrestling.

[One] example of cheating frequently seen in sports is the use of non-regulation (vis-a-vis the rules) equipment. A baseball pitcher putting graphite or Vaseline on the baseball, to make it exit his hand faster is a good example of this.
That doesn't stop him from cheating again. Sports, student council, and going out for hamburgers take up his study time, and the cheating goes on and on. Finally he gets caught, gets Mary in trouble too, and gets kicked off the student council.
