Video Rola, a Mexican-based network featuring Regional Mexican music videos, artists interviews, concerts and more, announced two separate acquisition/upgrade campaigns with Charter Communications. One campaign is in Ft. Worth, Texas and the other is in Charter's North/ Central California region that includes Turlock, West Sacramento and San Luis Obispo. Both campaigns offer residents of the markets the opportunity to win a pair of Mexicana Airline tickets good for anywhere Mexicana flies in the US and Mexico. The Video Rola offer in North/Central California will be communicated via seventeen radio remotes and other community events. In Ft. Worth, the offer will be communicated via a series of tactics: Video Rola designed bilingual cross channel commercial, print ad, direct mail postcard, door hanger and flyer. The campaign is scheduled to run from October 23 through December 31 in both markets.
In February 1994 Charter announced its first acquisition. It would spend nearly $200 million to acquire ten cable systems in Louisiana, Georgia, and Alabama. The systems were acquired from the McDonald Group of Birmingham, Alabama, and served about 100,000 subscribers in the Southeast. Charter's strategy at this time was to acquire smaller systems throughout the Southeast and eventually go public.

In January 1999 Charter added 68,000 subscribers in Southern California with the purchase of four cable systems from American Cable Entertainment of Stamford, Connecticut. After the acquisition Charter would have more than 500,000 subscribers in the region.
[D]ebt from those acquisitions began to catch up with Charter, and analysts and investors began to question its business practices. Charter's stock had dropped to 76 cents per share by October 2002.
