Welsh soprano Charlotte Church became an overnight classical superstar in November 1998 with the release of her debut album, Voice of an Angel, issued when she was just 12 years old. Born in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales, she began performing in public at age three, and five years later was a regular at local karaoke competitions; from there Church made a series of television appearances, followed by live dates at prestigious venues including the London Palladium and the Royal Albert Hall. Upon signing to Sony Classical, she released Voice of an Angel to considerable media attention; a self-titled effort followed in 1999. Both albums went platinum in the U.S. after reaching the Top Ten in the U.K. Dream a Dream, a Christmas album, released in 2000, hit the Top Ten and went platinum in the U.S. Her fourth release, Enchantment, appeared in the fall of 2001. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

"Charlotte Church has admitted smoking cannabis. But she did not enjoy it because it gave her a craving for chocolate. Charlotte, 18, said she puffed on a spliff last month at a private party at a pal's house after a night out. It was passed to her and she inhaled several times. But Charlotte said she did not enjoy the experience; it made her cough and she hated feeling stoned.", The Sun (UK), Nov. 20, '04

There's a chance that Charlotte Church is pregnant, you see. Granted, the only evidence for this is that Charlotte Church has given up smoking again and spent her 21st birthday party quietly celebrating with family rather than doing something a bit more Charlotte Church-y and mainlining eight gallons of WKD, blearily staggering through the streets of Cardiff slagging off Pavarotti and everyone else before projectile-vomiting a jet of 43% proof puke into a policeman's eye from 20 paces, but a rumour is a rumour. Sadly, Charlotte Church's personal life has been constantly played in the tabloids, from her parents' marital problems to her supposed excessive smoking and partying. Yet, she continues to create her own niche in pop music.
