Charles Simonyi: Baikonur Cosmodrome

This March, you are cordially invited to join a select VIP group to witness the launch of a Soyuz from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, transporting the Expedition 15 crew and Charles Simonyi to the ISS. As part of the program, you will tour the Baikonur Cosmodrome, observe the pre-launch activities and witness the spectacular launch from a distance of less than one mile. You will ... have the opportunity to visit the famous Gagarin Training Center in Star City, just outside Moscow, where cosmonauts have been training to travel to space since the dawn of the Space Age.

Earlier in the month, on April 7, Dr. Simonyi launched aboard Soyuz TMA-10 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. He joined Expedition 15 commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and flight engineer Oleg Kotov for the flight. They arrived at the space station on April 9 and were greeted by the Expedition 14 crew.

Stewart’s presence in Baikonur inspired wide speculation that she and Simonyi — friends for about a decade — were planning to announce their engagement. Susan Hutchison, a spokeswoman for Simonyi, tried to end some of the speculation, saying Stewart was just a friend.
