Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is used as the basis for much of Chandra Suresh's research of the evolution of humans. Chandra's book, Activating Evolution is similar to Darwin's On the Origin of Species (1859). Darwin received much more support from the scientific community than the Sureshes are for their theories.

Charles Robert Darwin was a naturalist who is best known for his theory on evolution. Darwin was born February 12, 1809 in Shrewsbury, England. His father, Robert Darwin, was a physician. His mother, Susannah Wedgwood Darwin, died when he was eight years old, and he was brought up by his sister. In December, 1831, Darwin departed as an unpaid naturalist on a five-year scientific expedition,aboard the H.M.S. Beagle, where he explored and surveyed the Pacific coasts and off-shore islands of South America. Under Captain Robert Fitzroy, he visited Tenerife, the Cape Verde Is, Brazil, Montevideo, Tierra del Fuego, Buenos Aires, Valparaiso, Chile, the Galapagos , Tahiti, New Zealand, and Tasmania.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882) was an an English naturalist whose theory of evolution is one of the greatest contributions ever made to science. Darwin stated this theory in his book The Origin of Species (1859). In another book called The Descent of Man (1871 ) he applied his theory to the evolution of man from a primitive monkey-like animal. Both books aroused world-wide controversy. Many considered them to be offensive, atheistic, blasphemous and Darwin's caricatures were published in magazines. Although later research has modified or disproved some of Darwin's findings, scientists still accept his basic ideas.

Charles Robert Darwin was born on February 12, 1809, in Shrewsbury, England, the fifth child of Robert and Susannah Darwin. His father was a successful doctor, as was his grandfather, Erasmus Darwin, who had a great influence on Charles's later theories. His mother, who was the daughter of the famous pottery maker Josiah Wedgwood (1730–1795), died when Charles was eight. His sisters then raised him. At the age of nine Charles entered Shrewsbury School. He was not a very good student.

When he embarked on the Beagle Darwin had with him the first volume of Charles Lyell's new three volume set. Principles of Geology, given to him by Captain FitzRoy. He devoured the book and within five months was sold on Lyell's uniformitarian view of geology. It became the lynch pin of his interpretation of all geological and fossil observations. Lyell's theory of earth history provided Darwin with the time needed to make any theory of evolution at all plausible. Lyell worked from the a priori assumption that the biblical young-earth chronology was false and that the Genesis flood never occurred.

Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 - 19 April 1883) was a famous naturalist born in England. He is best known for the Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection. The concept is that organisms are modified over vast amounts of time by naturally occurring processes, originating from common ancestors that lived tens of millions of years ago. Outside the area of evolutionary theory in particular, Charles Darwin was regarded as an expert on barnacles, as well as being credited with discovering how coral atolls were formed.
