built 188 days ago
Charles Bronfman: On Feb. 19, 1999, Charles Bronfman was elected chairman of United Jewish Communities (UJC). This $4 billion cash cow subsumes 189 Jewish Federation contributors and 400 Jewish communities in North America. At a Nov. 9-13 UJC General Assembly in Washington, Bronfman will pass the chairmanship to James A. Tisch, son of Mega member Laurence Tisch.

One successful program Bronfman helped implement is the congregation's “ski shul,” North America's only ski-in/ski-out Kabbalat Shabbat service. The service takes place in a cabin on a mountain at Deer Valley, one of the world's great ski resorts. Every Friday afternoon, Jews from around the world gather on the mountain for a Kabbalat Shabbat service, Kiddush wine and challah.
The upcoming Music and Entertainment Industry gala will not be Bronfman’s first brush with tzedakah this season. Vivendi Universal was the driving force behind "America: A Tribute to Heroes," the star-studded Sept. 21 telethon that raised $150 million in two hours.
