The Chanel logotype is an interlocking double-C, one facing forwards the other facing backwards. This derives from the name Coco Chanel. "Coco" is the nickname frequently used by Chanel founder, Gabrielle Chanel. The logotype was not trade-marked until during the first openings of Chanel stores.

Gabrielle Chanel's modernity surprised the world of her time. Born at the end of the 19th century, she quickly understood that all was there for her taking. By audaciously combining her ideas and her innate sense of beauty, she created what was to become a unique style. From the 1932 collection Bijoux de Diamants exclusively dedicated to platinum and diamonds pieces presented on wax busts, to the 2005 J12 Tourbillon watch in high-tech ceramic and white gold, the splendor of Chanel watches remains intact and pure as ever.
