Chaco Canyon: Ancient Chacoans

The film challenges the notion that Chaco Canyon was primarily a trade and redistribution center. Rather it argues that it was a center of astronomy and cosmology and that a primary purpose for the construction of the elaborate Chacoan buildings and certain roads was to express astronomical interests and to be integral parts of a celestial patterning.

3,000 men, women and children undertook a collective pilgrimage to Chaco Canyon during August 16 and 17th, 1987. Their goal: awakening to ancient memories and future visions and discovering their personal destinies through the experience of sacred space and time. This psycho-spiritual, metahistorical expression was called the Harmonic Convergence. It resulted in a moving and powerful affirmation of the human spirit, an expression of a longing to push the evolutionary envelope, and a desire to redirect the course of Spaceship Earth.

The rocks exposed in Chaco Canyon record an interval in the Earth's history during the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 75 to 80 million years ago. During this time, Chaco was part of the migrating coastline of an ancient inland sea.
