Before even signing to Eminem's and Dr. Dre's label, 50 Cent was engaged in a well-publicized dispute with rapper Ja Rule and his label Murder Inc. Records. The rappers engaged in numerous mixtape "disses," but have since ended the conflict. The conflict started from alleged accounts stemmed from an apparent robbery of Ja Rule's jewelry led to a confrontation from a member of Murder, Inc stabbing 50 Cent. Before the release of Get Rich Or Die Tryin', Murder, Inc alongside The Source began a smear campaign against the rapper. A restraining order document was floating around the Internet stating that 50 Cent had placed label CEO, Irv Gotti and rapper Black Child in the document forging a belief that 50 Cent is a "snitch" or a police informant. Although 50 Cent dismissed the claims of a restraining order, the bad publicity continues to be a tool used among various rappers who engage in beef with G-Unit. This was one of the most well known feuds in hip-hop history.

The South Jamaica, Queens 26 year old native, 50 Cent, is grinding hard to be at the top in his field. His freestyles on mixtapes are more like songs because he adds a hook and an original beat to his music. This has separated him from the average rapper. 50 Cent lays it down so well because he's not a newcomer. Instead he's an established artists that’s confident enough to spit flames and make hot music. 50 Cent is so hot, that DJ’s have taken it upon themselves to release two Best of 50 Cent mix CD’s, before he had even signed to a major label.

In 2005, 50 Cent had an escalating feud with The Game. The Game, who was never signed to G-Unit, was close to 50 Cent before the release of his debut album The Documentary. When the album was released, 50 Cent felt The Game was disloyal for wanting to work with artists G-Unit was feuding with. He further claimed that he was not getting proper credit for the debut of the album.[citation needed]
