Census (U.S.): People
built 385 days ago
The Census 2000 becomes even more interesting in terms of the individual model as compared to the group model. The census form is meant to be filled out by individuals about themselves. The protest against the interpretation of multiple boxes without the application of one-drop rules was brought, not by individuals, but by an organization, the NAACP.30 The NAACP has vested privileges to protect and represent the rights of the group of African Americans. African Americans are a recognized racial group with a social history, traditions of liberation, and at this time, hard-won recognition of their civil rights. In recent years, the arguments against official mixed race identities have often been implicit within racial scholarship, varied discussion fora, and the media. These arguments include: a multiplicity of recognized mixed-race categories will create social confusion; in the case of black and white mixed race, individuals allowed to be "not-black" will defect from membership in the black community to the detriment of neighborhood and family ties; the recognition of people who are mixed with black ancestry will deprive blacks of political representation and moral power as a special interest and advocacy group because they will be fewer in number; and mixed-race people have a long history of wanting the best of both worlds, both white privilege and special consideration for being members of minority groups -- and it is not fair that they should have these unique advantages.31 A critique of these objections to mixed-race identity include: social confusion about race is not a bad thing if racial categories are confused and unfounded to begin with; special interest coalitions are possible among nonwhite groups; the historical advantages of mixed-race people occurred before black Americans had a recognized voice, which is no longer the case; and mixed race people tell a different story about their alleged advantages.32
The first population census after the independence in 1946 was taken in 1952. It did only count the number of people in the households and could therefore be considered only to be a housing census. The first real complete census was taken in 1961. The following censuses have been taken in 1979, 1994 and 2004. A political sensitive issue have since the Six-Day war in 1967 been the distribution of the population in Palestinians and Jordanians.
In July 1991 Secretary of Commerce Robert A. Mosbacher announced his decision not to adjust the 1990 census to account for the missing 5 million people. Mosbacher said that although he was troubled by the undercount of minorities, his decision supported the integrity of the census and that the resulting disadvantage to minorities should not be remedied in the official census. He ... expressed concern that adjustment might not improve distribution of representatives among the states and that uncertainty as to the methods of adjustment and assumptions behind them might cause even more dispute about the accuracy of the census.

Since the very first census, the question of "Can you speak Irish?" has been asked. This has often led to misleading figures, as many people know how to speak some Irish through schooling, but do not actually speak it frequently. The 2006 census included how often you spoke the language if you had chosen the "Yes" answer if you spoke Irish.
The average number of people living in U.S. households has dropped almost one whole body each time the country adds 100 million citizens, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. When the 300-million milestone is reached, that number will be at a new low of 2.6 people per home—parents, offspring and extended squatters included.

The decennial census aims to count and report the “whole number of persons” in each state. The underlying concept is to count people “where they usually eat and sleep” as of Census Day—April 1, 2000. To convey this concept in the “self-enumeration” setting of the mail-out/mail-back census, the census forms include guidelines for respondents to follow in reporting members of each household.
