Celebrex® (celecoxib) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat several conditions related to pain and inflammation. It is part of a class of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs for short. It is a specific type of NSAID known as a COX-2 inhibitor.
In 1999 Celebrex became the first Cox-2 inhibitor to be approved for use in the United States. It was part of a groundbreaking new class of drugs intended to treat osteoarthritis, acute pain and painful menstrual cycles.
When your joints are inflamed, painful and stiff using Celebrex will loosen up your joints, and make your day more bearable without the pain. Celebrex is usually taken in 200 mg amounts, either just once a day or in twice a day depending on the mg in the capsule that you have purchased. One side effect that you should be aware of is that Celebrex when taken with aspirin can cause ulcers to form.
Both Celebrex and Vioxx, which is made by Merck & Co., are a type of drug called cox-2 inhibitors, which have become popular because of their effectiveness in treating the pain of arthritis and other ailments. Vioxx was pulled from the market in September because of safety concerns.
CELECOXIB (Celebrex®) used to reduce inflammation and ease mild to moderate pain for such conditions as arthritis or painful menstrual cycles. Celecoxib may ... be used to treat certain other conditions such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). Generic celecoxib capsules are not available.
