The Cauldron is within easy reach of all that Dublin city has to offer. O Connell St.'s a five minute stroll, with art galleries, restaurants, museums and temple bar/Grafton St. within shouting distance. Blessington St. itself is becoming an important part of the ever expanding cultural melting pot of the recently acquired cosmopolitan status of Dublin.
Built by Daisy Dodderidge around 1500 "to serve as a gateway between the non-wizarding world and Diagon Alley" (fw), the Leaky Cauldron has remained a famous and popular place for five hundred years (PS5). Located not in Diagon Alley proper but on the outside, on Charing Cross Road in the heart of London (DH26, the pub is "tiny" and "grubby-looking," sandwhiched between a book shop and a record shop where passing Muggles don't seem to be able to see it (PS5). Today, the shop is owned and run by a toothless old man named Tom (PA3), and ... employs a dishwasher (GF9) and possibly a maid (PA4).

Trying to escape an on-coming Cauldron-Born warrior on Mount Dragon, Taran discovers the black sword Drynwyn hidden under a rock. When he drew the sword, the Cauldron-Born warrior actually showed a sign of fear. Taran struck down the warrior. For the first time, the mute Cauldron-Born actually made a noise, screaming when it fell. All the Cauldron-Born dropped to the earth, returning to normal corpses.
Cauldron recipes can only be obtained through alchemy discoveries and currently only create Major Protection potions for the various magical schools (excluding Holy). All cauldrons can be used a maximum of 25 times and have a 5 minute duration.

The Cauldron began in 1996 as a black and white, 30-page publication, created by the then chair of the humanities division at Holy Cross College, Associate Professor of English John Raymer. In the years since, The Cauldron has ranged from 40-100 pages, its release always coinciding with Arts Day, HC’s annual celebration of music, drama and the visual arts.
