Image:Jean-Marie-Lustiger.jpg In 1998, Lustiger was awarded the Nostra Aetate Award for advancing Catholic-Jewish relations by the Center for Christian-Jewish Understanding, an interfaith group housed on the campus of Sacred Heart University, a Catholic university at Fairfield, Connecticut in the United States. The Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights group, protested the award, saying it was "inappropriate" to honour Lustiger, who was born a Jew but left the faith. "It's fine to have him speak at a conference or colloquium," said the league's national director Abraham Foxman. "But I don't think he should be honored because he converted out, which makes him a poor example." In France... Lustiger enjoyed good relations with the Jewish community. Théo Klein observed that although conversions usually carry out negative connotations in the Jewish world, it was not so with the Cardinal [16].
The Novus Ordo Catholic Directory publishes diocese population numbers. Where do they come from? Why, the Newchurch bishops provide "estimates." There is no objective source. It has been revealed that some bishops have reported exactly the same number for 14 years! One Newchurch bishop told a statistician to bump the count up 50% to cover the people he thought should be there, but weren't!

LANSING, September 10, 2002 (LSN.ca) - The Michigan Catholic Conference announced yesterday that a Catholic voters guide identifying abortion as the primary issue in voting was distributed to all 804 Catholic parishes in the state. "The statement is designed to serve as an educational tool for Catholic voters in Michigan," said Sister Monica Kostielney, President and CEO of the MCC.
In what is likely the most significant contribution to date in the debate over the use of the so-called "emergency contraception" pills at Catholic hospitals, renowned theologian Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner has written on the subject. The Doctor of Sacred Theology who has been teaching theology in Franciscan universities and seminaries in the US and Italy for forty years, has questioned the basis on which the whole issue is based - namely whether it is permitted for Catholics to administer Plan B even if it acted as a contraceptive rather than causing abortions. Fr. Fehlner, who was the North American Superior for the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in the United States from 1996 to 2002, dismissed outright the use of Plan B at Catholic hospitals where there is any doubt as to it possibility of causing an abortion.
