A group of 96 prominent Catholics have issued a petition opposing a November 2007 "Call for Civility" that had urged Catholics not to demand excommunication for politicians at odds with Catholic teachings on abortion. The signers of the new statement believe the November statement would have the effect of silencing the pro-life movement and silencing criticism of pro-abortion Catholic politicians. Among the 96 signers are Templeton Prize winner Michael Novak, authors Robert Royal and Peter Kreeft, and columnist Russell Shaw. Austin Ruse, president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute (C-FAM), and one of the organizers of the new statement said, "Rather than giving pro-abortion Catholic politicians a pass, we should vote them out of office and encourage them to repent."

The stirring up of the Holy Spirit, which directly initiated the Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church, occurred on the campus of Duquesne University in 1967. Students and faculty who were on retreat one weekend, simultaneously felt called in the middle of the night to enter the chapel and they began praising and worshiping. The Holy Spirit unleashed His gifts that night in a profound way. The greater awareness of the Holy Spirit and the new movement quickly spread throughout the nation and to different countries around the world.

The Catholic Church recognizes several forms of the consecrated life. These include the cenobitic life in the religious institutes which are ... referred to as monastic orders, religious orders, or religious congregations. Additional forms include the eremitic/anchoritic life, the order of virgins, the life of the consecrated widows/widowers, and in secular institutes and societies of apostolic life. It also makes a provision for the approval of new forms of consecrated life.[104]

New Ways Ministry does not promote the full, authentic teaching of the Catholic Church on homosexuality. In light of the confusion and harm that are likely to arise from this event, the bishop has notified Catholic parishes that he does not approve of any advertising or promotion of this event.

A change of policy at Georgetown University Law Center will permit the University - which is the oldest Catholic university in the nation - to give grants to students who lobby for abortion for agencies such as Planned Parenthood. The Hoya, the Georgetown University newspaper, reports on its front page today about the policy change. The policy change was announced September 7 by Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff in a letter published in the Law Center's student newspaper. The decision comes after the Law Center got flack from pro-abortion students and faculty for directing student group Equal Justice Foundation, which received University funds, to refuse funding to a student who applied for funding to intern at Planned Parenthood.
