built 657 days ago
Born in Paris in 1943, Catherine Deneuve is one of France's "grandes dames". After making her movie debut in 1957 as a teenager, her breakthrough came in the wonderful musical Les Parapluies De Cherbourg. Deneuve went on to appear in other great films such as Repulsion, Tristana and Luis Bunuel’s masterpiece Belle De Jour, in which she played a married woman who works as a part-time prostitute. She appeared in Dancer In The Dark, after writing to Lars von Trier and telling him how much she admired his work. Once the muse of fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent, Deneuve will only wear his clothes.

In Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, Catherine Deneuve, as a natural brunette, plays alongside her sister, Françoise and Gene Kelly in a sweet musical about innocent, twin French sisters in search of love and a good tune. In Belle de Jour - the film that made her an international star - Deneuve plays a wealthy, erotically driven woman who leads a secret life as a prostitute.
Catherine Deneuve plays an older woman prepared to humiliate herself in order to hold on to her much younger lover, Paul. He in turn befriends an older artist with whom he sets off on a road trip of indeterminate end.
