Long before she became "Elvira", Cassandra Peterson was a model. Her exquisite "natural" body made her a favorite for mens magazines. This shooting ran in Swank Magazine as part of a Las Vegas layout. She later appeared in Playboy as part of couple in Hooper's "Sex in the Great Outdoors" layout in 1976.

Cassandra Peterson debuted "Elvira's Movie Macabre" on local LA TV in 1981, which quickly became KJH's #1 show. A special 3D broadcast resulted in the sale of 2.7 million pairs of 3D glasses in greater Los Angeles. In 1983, Elvira became the first horror host to be nationally syndicated, running in over 100 markets. Her first feature film, "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark," was released in 1988, and the latest, "Elvira's Haunted Hills," in 2003. Fall of 2007, Cassandra Peterson returned to television as both producer and star of her new Fox Reality television series The Search for the Next Elvira. Rumours began to circulate that this was to be Peterson's final turn as the character Elvira. The show ... was not created to find a replacement, but rather to find an additional Elvira to help assist with appearances. Cassandra continues to make appearances as Elvira. [2]

Cassandra Peterson, born September 17, 1951 is better known for her on-screen persona "Elvira, Mistress of the Dark". She gained fame wearing dark, gothic, cleavage-enhancing clothing as host of Elvira's Movie Macabre, a weekly horror movie presentation. Her presumably sinister appearance is offset by her character talking not like a stereotypical vampire, but like a Valley girl.

Cassandra Peterson was just another struggling actress during the 1970s. In the early 1980s, as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, she put the "vamp" in vampire and introduced horror movies on a Los Angeles television station. From there she launched a career as a cleavage-rich spokeswoman for all things spooky and campy, including a syndicated TV show, a movie and a merchandising blitz that cranked out everything from perfume to pinball machines.
