On the night of November 29, 1986, while behind stage preparing for the second leg of a speaking tour his agent, George Kaplan, had convinced him to do, Grant suddenly forgot what he was going to say. Now in a panic, he began banging his head against a brick wall to help him remember. Unfortunately, he banged it so hard and repeatedly that he eventually gave himself a cerebral hemorrhage. Finally collapsing through the curtain, he expired with everyone watching.
In 1919 Grant ran away from home and joined the Bob Pender Troupe of comedians and acrobats. He was soon forced to return home when they discovered that he had lied about his age and about having his father's permission to work. At 13, Grant was a year too young to obtain a work permit and work legally. Undeterred, Grant waited until he turned 14 and then tried to get expelled from school so that his father might let him rejoin the group. Grant's plan worked.

One of the many roles turned down by Grant because he was concerned about the difference between his age and that of his leading lady. He would have played a middle aged playboy in Billy Wilder's romantic comedy drama.
