Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is the group of symptoms that result from pinching the medial nerve in the wrist. These symptoms range from numbness in a few fingers to pain in forearms, hands, or even shoulders. The first symptom most people notice is numbness in the three middle fingers when they first wake up.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is becoming much more common in the United States. CTS is the name for problems that affect your wrist and hand. These problems include swelling, burning, tingling, numbness, and lost of strength. Women are three times more likely to develop CTS than men.

Over the last decade, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and other Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) have become the largest injury category plaguing computer users in the workplace, home and school. Altogether, RSI represents 62 percent of all North American workers’ compensation claims and results in nearly $15 billion to $20 billion in lost work time and medical claims each year, as reported by OSHA. California, a leader in workplace safety, proactively recognized this issue over five years ago when it was the first state to enact regulations (Title-8) requiring employers to address office ergonomics and computer workstation safety.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome usually causes numbness, tingling, and/or pain in the affected hand(s). The numbness or tingling occurs in the fingers innervated by the median nerve-the thumb, index, long, and ring fingers. The numbness if often worse at night as well as when driving or reading the newspaper. Some patients report dropping things and feel that the hand is weak. The most severely affected hands can be entirely numb with loss of the muscles of the thumb.
