Carnival ... pioneered the concept of building regional drive-to ports, expanding its embarkation centers beyond Miami to places like New Orleans, Mobile, Jacksonville, Port Canaveral, Galveston, Norfolk, Charleston and New York. If RCI and P&O Priness merged, as origianlly planned, the new company would overtake Carnival as the world's largest cruise operator and create a company valued at $7 billion. Some doubt whether Carnival is serious about a deal, believing that it simply wants to scupper the merger of two rivals. However, in documents filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Christmas Eve, Carnival prepared its offer to be posted to P&O's shareholders subject to regulatory approval. P&O Princess has rejected talks with Carnival, saying that under the terms of its merger deal with RCI, it cannot talk to other parties.

Carnival officials said that the temperatures recorded by Dr. Nash are not violations of U.S. sanitation or food codes. Carnival ... questioned Dr. Nash’s expertise on cruise ship sanitation. The company told Inside Edition, “Food handling and sanitation is strictly and effectively monitored by the CDC” and said its fleet has “a positive CDC record and our ships provide one of the cleanest and most sanitary vacations environments available.” The company also said the inspections are so intensive and detailed few restaurants would be able to pass them.
