Carl Gustav Jung: Carl Jung
built 663 days ago
Carl Gustav Jung was born July 26, 1875, in the small Swiss village of Kessewil. His father was Paul Jung, a country parson, and his mother was Emilie Preiswerk Jung. He was surrounded by a fairly well educated extended family, including quite a few clergymen and some eccentrics as well.
Carl Gustav Jung (C.G.Jung) was born in 1875 in Switzerland. He initially began a career in archaeology before studying medicine and finally settling on psychiatry. Jung met Freud in Vienna and the two worked closely together on psychoanalysis. However after a few years Jung began to develop his own theories that differed from those of Freud in a number of important ways.
This volume of specially commissioned essays is a critical introduction to the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung, one of the founders of psychoanalysis. Jung broke with Freud and developed his own theories which he called "analytical psychology." This Companion sets Jung in the context of his own time, outlines the current practice and theory of Jungian psychology, and shows how Jungians continue to question and evolve his thinking to fit the postmodern, multicultural world of contemporary psychoanalysis.
