As the 2006 Nextel (Sprint) Cup season approached, Carl Edwards was a trendy pick to capture the championship. However, he struggled throughout the season and failed to win a single Cup race and did not appear in the Chase for the Championship. He finished 12th in the final championship standings. He faired much better in the Busch Series as he won four races and finished second in the championship standings. But his struggles in NASCAR’s top series proved to be frustrating for the young driver and it was evident following several confrontations with opposing drivers, most notably Tony Stewart and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Carl Edwards More Celeb Photos Born in Columbia, Missouri, Carl Edwards is no stranger to the world of racing. He grew up watching his father Carl Sr., race stock cars and midget sprint cars. Carl's own racing career started at the age of 13 in 1993, when he started to race four-cylinder mini-sprints.

Edwards getting Flyer Frequent Miles: For the second time this summer, Carl Edwards has weekend plans to log some significant flight time. He'll race in a NASCAR Busch Race on Saturday at Pikes Peak, Colo., before heading back to Pocono Raceway for Sunday's Nextel Cup Pennsylvania 500. It'll take some fancy footwork, plus the help of ARCA stock car champion Frank Kimmel and former Busch driver, now TV commentator, Hank Parker Jr. Edwards, who six weeks ago became only the second driver in the 32-year history of NASCAR at Pocono to win there in his first outing, starts the weekend practicing his Ford on the 2(-mile tri-oval. Then he heads west to race in the Saturday Busch race where Parker will qualify Edwards' car in Colorado. Meanwhile back at Pocono on Saturday, Kimmel will run qualifying for the 500 in Edwards' Roush Ford. If all goes well, an about face from Pike's Peak will get Edwards to Pocono in time to start the 500.

By Mark Long DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards have little room for improvement. Biffle won five of the first 15 races last year, added another victory at the season finale in Homestead and finished second in the Nextel Cup championship. Edwards picked up four wins, capping each of them with trademark backflips, and was third in the points.
Roush Fenway Racing drivers Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth each secured a spot in the Chase for 2007. Edwards is in his second NASCAR NEXTEL championship chase and is tied with Kurt Busch for fourth. He has seven top- 5's and 11 top-tens and two wins. This is Kenseth's fourth consecutive year in the Chase and he is tied for sixth going into the first race of the 10-race Chase. Kenseth, the 2003 NEXTEL Cup champion, has eight top-5 finishes, 16 top-tens and one win at California Speedway.
Edwards celebrating his 2007 Busch Series championship Carl Edwards has appeared on the covers of ESPN The Magazine and Men's Health shirtless, displaying his muscular body. He appeared in an Under Armour commercial during Super Bowl 42. For a NASCAR driver, Edwards spends a lot of time developing his body, as photos of his abdominal and pectoral muscles have shown. Edwards made an appearance on the February 22, 2006 episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Ferguson produced the cover of the February issue of ESPN The Magazine which featured a bare-chested photo of Edwards. Joking that Edwards' nipples seemed far apart, Ferguson suggested this was due to the high rates of speed at which Edwards often traveled.
