Carl Edwards: Roush Racing
built 622 days ago
Although Carl didn't make the feature, the night was still a success with 100's of people getting to meet Jack Roush and Carl Edwards. Because of the busy schedules of the Nextel Cup drivers and teams it is difficult for Nextel Cup drivers to compete in other types of auto racing.

It seems to be a big leap but Roush says the car is fully sponsored for 2005 and even though Edwards does not have that much Cup seat time they plan to go forth immediately. Most fans are tickled that he will be given this most unusual opportunity, and believe he will fulfill Jack Roush's goals for him. Finishing tenth in his first Cup race was certainly a good beginning for this 25 year old who just a little over a year ago was living in his mother's basement, waiting to get his start in this very competitive sport. Persistence and perseverance are now reaping rewards for Carl Edwards.

Having crew chief Bob Osborne back should help Edwards' effort as well. These two hit on a chemistry that carried them within 35 points of a Nextel Cup title in 2005. Why Jack Roush separated the two in the first place last season was somewhat of a mystery (even to Edwards himself). The smart money says Roush figured Osborne could work his magic with another company newcomer (Jamie McMurray). Although the Office Depot team was down, it certainly had plenty of time to rebound from its shaky start. This decision may ultimately have been the one that sunk Edwards' season.

The 2006 season was a trying one for Carl Edwards and Roush Racing as a whole. He lost his crew chief Bob Osborne to teammate Jamie McMurray, dropped out of the Chase, and failed to pick up a win. Reunited with Osborne in 2007, Carl ended his winless streak with a win at Michigan, and looks to be a lock to make the Chase for the 3rd time in his career.

Edwards got his fourth win at Texas and becoming the tenth different driver to win there and the fifth win there for Roush Racing. As of June 15, Edwards best 2006 finish was at Lowes Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600 where he finished 3rd.

Jack Roush is adamant about getting Edwards a Sprint Cup championship and getting it soon! He sees Edwards as the future of Roush Racing, and who could blame him. Edwards won three races in 2007 and could easily turn it up a notch this season.
