built 650 days ago
On July 6, Carl Edwards will drive the No. 60 Aflac Ford in the Winn-Dixie 250 at Daytona International Speedway (ESPN2 7:30 p.m.) as part of the Rousch Fenway Racing sponsorship. Currently, Edwards leads in the NASCAR Busch Series and ranks seventh in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series championship points standings. Greg Biffle drove the No. 16 Aflac Ford for its debut at the NEXTEL Cup race on July 1.
Edwards to sign driver for USAC team: #99-Carl Edwards is close to signing Canadian Pete Shepherd III to drive his Sprint car in the USAC Silver Crown Series this season. The deal comes after Shepherd completed a battery of tests in the car at Homestead-Miami Speedway earlier this month. Shepherd ... has signed a development deal at Roush Racing -- Edwards' Cup team -- where he will drive in a number of Auto Racing Club of America races this season. And he is coming off a successful showing in the Discovery Channel's Driver X program where he made it to the final cut of 1,400 young drivers who were competing for a ride in Roush's Craftsman Truck Series Ford F-150.

Carl Edwards held off hard-charging teammate Matt Kenseth over the final dozen laps to win the Busch Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday. It was a typical crash-filled Bristol race, with 12 cautions for 103 laps and one red-flag stoppage. NASCAR ... confused things with a miscue on pit road that confused most of the field and gave Edwards, Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman a second chance.

Edwards (in the red suit) waves to fans during driver's introductions at the spring 2006 Bristol race In 2005, Edwards became a full-time driver in both the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series. He has already won races in each, and he made history in the process of winning. On March 19, 2005, Edwards won the Aaron's 312 at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, recording his first Busch Series win. The next day, he beat Jimmie Johnson by 2-hundredths of a second to win the Golden Corral 500 at the same track for his first NEXTEL Cup Series win. Until this took place, no driver had ever won both the Busch and NEXTEL Cup Series races in the same weekend at Atlanta, although the feat had been pulled off numerous times before at other tracks by other drivers. Also, Edwards became the first driver in NASCAR history to pick up his first career Busch and NEXTEL Cup Series wins in the same weekend.
An appeals committee on Wednesday upheld the penalty that was levied against Carl Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team when his race-winning car failed inspection at Dover. Edwards' car did not meet minimum height requirements, and NASCAR docked him 25 points. Crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $25,000 and car owner Jack Roush was docked 25 car owner points.

Heading into the 2005 season, Edwards and his Roush Fenway Racing team secured sponsorship with Office Depot and Scotts Brands and was a solid threat to capture his first career Cup victory. However, few expected it to come in the season’s fourth race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Less than 24 hours prior, Edwards captured his first career Busch (Nationwide) Series victory. During the closing laps in the Cup race, Edwards was trailing leader Jimmie Johnson by several car lengths. On the final lap, Edwards would use the outside lane to edge out Johnson by .028 seconds. Following the victory, he showcased his celebratory back flip.
