Carl Edwards: Nextel Cup
built 650 days ago
At the drop of the green flag, Edwards will be making his 100th Cup career start. He scored 4 wins, 2 poles and 47 top ten finishes since his first start in the GFS Marketplace 400 on August 22, 2004. Edwards finished 10th in that race which was held at Michigan as well.
Like many young drivers who make it to the Cup level, Edwards got his start in the Craftsman Truck Series. He earned Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors in 2003 when he won three times and finished eighth in the final point standings, but was even better the following season with three wins and a fourth-place series finish.

Because he had started 13 Cup races the previous year, Edwards was not eligible for rookie of the year honors. He was... a Busch rookie and took that award with five victories.
It was, as Edwards handily beat Truex to the line to grab his first win since Nov. 11, 2005, at Texas. He celebrated his fifth career Nextel Cup win with his trademark back flip off the window ledge of his car.
