Edwards fought through most of the race at Martinsville, a place that already does enough to heat up the blood, with a fan blower malfunction depriving him of any kind of relief from the heat. That can do a lot to temporarily disable one’s brain cells, and Carl’s actions after the race weren’t characteristic of an intelligent person.
