Carl Edwards guides his No. 99 car past his father, Carl, Sr., on the third turn during their preliminary race Sunday night. The younger Edwards later was hurt in a crash and taken to an Omaha hospital.

Carl Edwards says he thinks that it probably happened when Greg Biffle gave him a couple good love taps after the race as congratulations. He said there were some braces bent under the deck lid and hopefully that is all it was. If that is the case, I get the feeling there will be a lot less love taps going on after the races from now on, if you can get fined for stuff that happens after the race, then those activities will stop very quickly I’m guessing.

Going into the event, Edwards was leading David Reutimann by 696 points. Just after halfway in Friday night’s race, Edwards got caught up in a wreck which started when Jimmie Johnson who lost it and hit the wall. Edwards is credited with a 33rd place finish and now leads Reutimann (finished 12th) by 638 points.

Going into the event, Edwards was leading David Reutimann by 809 points. He finished 11th and Reutimann wrecked half way thru the event (finished 40th). Edwards now leads Kevin Harvick (finished 2nd) by 798 points after the 19th race of the season.

Edwards was a fan of the show and was on the set of 24 during the week of a race at California Speedway. When touring the set he was asked if he wanted to appear on the show and Carl said he would love to.
