An independent study published this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology showed that commercially available omeprazole significantly decreases the antiplatelet activity of Plavix when the two medicines are co-administered. "This finding is consistent with our own earlier clinical data that revealed an adverse drug interaction between Plavix and Prilosec(R) (marketed omeprazole), and may raise serious concerns for patients and practitioners,"

The NFL Cholesterol Screen Team is a partnership between the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the National Football League (NFL), and Merck & Co., Inc. and was created to educate football fans about the dangers of high cholesterol. As a result of this initiative, nearly half of the quiz responses indicated the presence of at least one risk factor for heart disease and nearly 1 in 5 indicated they had multiple risk factors.
