Carbamazepine has both antiepileptic and psychotropic properties. Accepted indications include: Epilepsy: Generalized tonic-clonic (grand mal) and partial (focal) seizures. Pain syndromes: Trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Manic depressive illness unresponsive to lithium. (Reynolds, 1996)
